As a country, we really need to stop being so stupid.
First up, the ADA.
Seriously. It’s not that hard. And furthermore, it’s actually easy if you’re not an asshole. Don’t be an asshole.
Texas, that bastion of all things patriotic and christian. And one of the states that scares me when I go there. So in keeping with that Christian theme, here’s a little something from the Marine Corps Times. Sure glad that asshat supports our troops and all. Thankfully shit got pretty sideways for them on yelp.
I’m sick and tired of the Red States talking out of both sides of their mouths. Obviously that inbred hick down at the Riverside Inn did not know what the ADA said. And oh yeah, the guy has the dog because he served our country and can’t sleep now because of the PTSD and nightmaires. So yeah, throw him out, don’t serve him and call yourself a patriot.
Rand Paul. Home of the fifth highest poverty rate in the nation. Right behind Mississippi, New Mexico Louisiana and Arkansas. The poverty rate in Kentucky is 19.4%. 1 in 5 Kentuckians are living in poverty. Mr. Paul, you are not doing a good job.
I hated Trent Lott but he was good for Mississippi. He porkbarreled more projects out of Louisiana and into Mississippi than anyone and the void he left is noticeable. I don’t approve of taking Navy projects that belong in New Orleans and moving them to Mississippi but that’s what a good politician does. Rand Paul has run his mouth and done nothing. Shame on him.
On to Arizona. Shame on you too. This thinly veiled discriminatory bill you’ve brought to the table in the name of religion is pure bullshit. But let’s leave the calling out the Christian hypocrits to professionals. Ann Rice teed off on her Facebook page. For those not in the know, her son Christopher is gay and was just named one of the 10 most eligible bachelors.
Our post commending actress Ellen Page for her courage in coming out as gay attracted a lot of hostility and hate and hate speech — as well as positive and substantive comments. I have banned many from the page today. I will no longer tolerate hate speech in the guise of Christian belief with the usual irresponsible pick and choose bible quotes and talk of “sin” and hellfire. I have had enough of it, and I think the world has had enough of it too. Again, I commend Ellen Page for her bravery in coming out. I hope more celebrities and public figures will be inspired to do so. Anyone who thinks this does not matter is deceiving himself or herself. It matters very much. Gay people in all walks of life suffer from bigotry, bias, superstition, and ignorance. Hats off to Ellen Page! (And please do NOT come here to tell us publicly that you “don’t care.” If you don’t care, don’t expect us to care that you don’t care!).
And she didn’t stop there. Don’t know who Mike is but he got served.
Mike, in my experience many Christians are extremely aggressive towards those they despise and seek to control and change. They spend millions in America trying to interfere with a woman’s right to choose and a gay person’s civil rights. They are vocal and “in your face” with their hate of gays and other strong religious biases. If they would respect the rights and dignity of those who do not share their belief system, it would be better for everyone. But sadly, they don’t. And when they bring hate speech to this page, I will delete and ban them.
Mike, I don’t think the aggression and hostility of Christians towards those they condemn can be compared in any way to gay rights activists. Gay rights activists don’t spend millions trying to persecute and demonize others or oppress them in terms of civil rights. I hope you do some research on this topic. We have a serious problem in this country with aggressive Christians violating our separation of church and state, and campaigning to oppress women and gays, and sometimes children.
I think we are in a time in America when we must demand that all people claiming to be Christian take full moral responsibility for their belief system and the harm it has done historically and the harm it continues to do in our country. I see no reason to give Christians a pass on any of this.
The thing is, this behavior is not what it actually taught in the Bible. It’s how the Bible has been twisted by people seeking their own agenda. God is love. That’s what it says in the Bible. And God will do the judging, not us. Love your neighbor. Feed the poor. And my favorite part, don’t be a hypocrite. That beam in your eye. Yeah.
You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
Of course let’s have a little chuckle at the expense of the legislators down in Alabama.
Here is the most disgusting piece of legislation introduced last week, if not for the State of Arizona. Nice work for a freshman state rep. Do catch the video at the end. Dude needs to be taken out to the woodshed, which happened.
The point is stop it. Stop being asshats. Stop thinking the world owes you something, it doesn’t. Start contributing to society in a positive meaningful way. Do nice things. Be nice. Turn the other goddamn cheek and quit blaming others for your situation.
I met Arthur Boorman I believe two years ago in San Diego where he walked on stage. They gave him a speaking coach so he could pursue a speaking career. If he can do this, seriously what is your excuse.
