Bon Mots and Cheap Shots

On the 8th of November, the angels were crying as they carried his brothers away

That ship sailed under the Bush regime. Here’s an old NYT story about a young soldier trying to armor a HumVee with old police vests. Those who have been coming here for any length of time know that I am opposed to the war in Iraq and think we should have turned Afghanistan into a glass highway. But at no point have I ever disparaged, or would I disparage, the service of the men and women of our armed forces. It is the highest level of service to this country and it’s not their fault that a bunch of fat old white guys think they are expendable. They aren’t. They’re fathers and brothers and sons and mothers and wives and daughters. And someone loves every freaking one of them, even the difficult ones. So when I read that they’re essentially having a bake sale to get these men and women helmet padding so that the concussion devices that pepper their daily lives don’t turn their noodles into tapioca, it pisses me off. Nuff said.
